- The five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted inside a washroom of the school
- Based on the child’s description of the attacker, police arrested the accused
NEW DELHI: A five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted inside a washroom of a private school in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar around Saturday noon.
Police said in the evening that they had arrested a “peon” based on the description of her attacker provided by the Class 1 student.
However, it could not be confirmed if the accused was on the payroll of the school. Sources said he used to serve food to teachers.
The child’s parents found her bleeding from the private parts when she returned home crying in the afternoon.
The parents hospitalised her — her condition was stable at night — and informed police, who immediately rounded up staffers of the school and questioned them individually. All school bus drivers and conductors were put through sustained interrogation.
Based on the child’s description of the attacker, police zeroed in on few suspects. Finally, one of them, identified as the “peon” broke down and confessed to the crime, cops said. He was arrested and produced before a magistrate. Cops have registered an FIR under sections of rape (376 IPC) and protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) Act. The girl told her parent’s that Vikas had assaulted her while she had gone to relieve herself. When the girl started crying the man left her outside the toilet and fled.
Police will again interrogate him at length to ascertain if he had abused other kids in the past as well. The girl was admitted to LNJP hospital.
